Greater Abbeville Federal Credit Union Announces Fresh Start Account

Abbeville, SC – Greater Abbeville Federal Credit Union, GAFCU, announces a new product to its line-up: The Fresh Start Account. Effective immediately, people who have been turned away from other financial institutions due to minor credit and financial issues will be able to open a Fresh Start Checking account at GAFCU.

“Last fall our staff and board met to define common financial issues that we see, and how our credit union could be part of the solution to some of those problems” said Faye Crocker, CEO of GAFCU. “The Fresh Start Account is just the beginning of how we believe GAFCU can be the source of hope for a better financial future of our friends and neighbors in Abbeville” Crocker said.

To offset the risk associated with accepting the account, and to offset the administrative costs of overseeing the program the Fresh Start account is the only checking account with a monthly fee associated with it. Fresh Start Accounts can be opened for $15 per month, but also come with free financial counseling to help members get their finances back on track. After twelve months of keeping the Fresh Start Account in good standing at GAFCU, members can upgrade to one of the traditional free checking accounts.

Greater Abbeville Federal Credit Union is a member owned financial cooperative with membership open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Abbeville County. Founded in 1972 by employees of Flexible Tubing Industries, today the credit union has over 2,000 members and assets of over $12million.
